Recognizing the Need

In financial analysis and trading, structured note-taking is crucial. Traders need a systematic way to document their trade ideas.

How might users track and save their ideas within the platform?

Integrating Trade Ideas into Notes

Standardized Documentation

We introduced trade idea templates to provide a consistent format for recording trade ideas. Key sections include risk/reward analysis, learnings, and performance tracking.

Streamlining the Process

These pre-defined templates make note-taking easier and more efficient for both veteran traders and newcomers.

Form

As the user fills out the form the following steps appear. This reduces the cognitive load required by the user and ensures that they complete the template.

Submitted & Saved

Once saved the template renders into its static state. A panel appears in the header and displays a visual indicator of how the trade is tracking whether pending, active, or closed and if the trade was a success or failure.

Library

To separate ideas from generic notes, we added a separate tab within the users' library. This allows the user to quickly scan note headers to check performance before dialing into a specific trade.

Playback

Similar to notes, trade ideas can be linked to specific pieces of content. Allowing users to track trade they may have been suggested by a featured guest on Real Vision.

Restrictions

Due to the sensitive nature of trade ideas, we implemented several restrictions based on whether a user keeps their note private or shares it publicly with the community.

  • Once a trade idea is saved, users can only edit three fields: the title, why, and learnings.

  • If a user makes a note public, they cannot revert it back to private.

This ensures users are more honest and cannot update information to make a trade appear more favorable.

Conclusion

  • Trade idea templates significantly improve the user experience by providing a structured and efficient way to document and track trade ideas.

  • Templates help pave the way for RV to explore user-generated content, to foster community engagement.

  • These templates set the stage for future updates that could include gamification, enhancing user interaction and engagement.
